Professional Success: Sarah Porter is the principal and owner of Porterhouse Marketing. Porter brings over 15 years of strategy, production, traditional and digital marketing experience to her clients. As a seasoned marketing professional, Porter has worked with regional and national clients in the industries of healthcare, events, travel and tourism, and manufacturing. She also facilitates strategic planning and communication training and workshops for her clients.
Porter is a Certified Content Marketing Expert through SEMrush and is committed to staying abreast of the latest Web tools and advances, brand strategies, and marketing tactics to keep her clients on the leading edge of effective strategies both online and offline. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism, with an emphasis in advertising, from the University of Nevada, Reno. She was named Rising Star of the Year for Creative Services by NCET in 2014. In February of 2020, Porter will be delivering a TedX talk through the University of Nevada Reno on The Power of Never.

As a Board Member and Chair of the Development Committee for The Discovery – Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum, Porter works closely with the development staff to ensure they are hitting fundraising goals for individual donors, corporate sponsorship, and grants and foundations. As a part of the 2018 board, they exceeded their individual donor goal by 28 percent and exceeded corporate sponsorship goal by 25 percent. In 2019, as Chair of the committee, Porter has increased her committee size by almost 50 percent and have set goals and accountability for her committee members to ensure the continued financial success of the organization. Porter’s committee and involvement in The Discovery is a bit of a homecoming. Back in 2009/2010, she volunteered to help approach a naming donor, as well as organize and communicate with major and minor donors. She was a part of the team that helped identify, meet with, and secure the Terry Lee Wells Foundation’s naming gift that allowed The Discovery to break ground and eventually open the doors.
In addition to her work for The Discovery, Porter was co-chair of the Pops on the River by the Reno Phil. Over her tenure (2009 – 2014), she has assisted in raising more than $500K for the organization and its youth orchestra. Porter was also responsible for securing a completely in-kind sponsorship of marketing materials for four of the six years she was involved. All of the proceeds from the event go directly to support the Reno Phil and Youth Orchestras.
Porter is also active in various professional organizations in the Reno/Sparks area. She is an active participant in the American Advertising Federation, American Marketing Association, Public Relations Society of America and the Young Professional Network.
