His community contributions expand far and wide. As a co-host for local meetup groups: /dev/reno and Reno.js, he coordinated speaking events, managed marketing initiatives, and facilitated activities for group members to expand upon their dev skills while acting as a mentor to group members. Always passionate to help individuals improve, he’s volunteered at Nodeschool and Code.Org. Recently, CJ has acted as a technical advisor to startups and in the school boardroom.
CJ earned a degree in Computer Science from the University of Nevada, Reno. He held a position at App Academy, San Francisco where he taught 330+ students across 10+ cohorts on the fundamentals of web development. He’s also a decorated Army veteran, serving 6 years including time in Afghanistan, service for which he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal.
Father of two, CJ enjoys spending time with his family traveling and exploring the Tahoe Basin.
