Melissa Davis for FB and Web

What do you love about your business? I love working with the people in our community who are passionate about helping in the fight against hunger. We are so incredibly lucky to have many people that genuinely want to make a difference for those who are struggling and it’s a great honor to be able to help them make an investment which will truly have a positive impact.

What do you get out of being a member of YPN? For me, RTYPN allows great networking opportunities with professionals who are well poised to be in leadership positions in our community in the near future.

What is your favorite special event in the region? I would have to say football games are my favorite special events! There is nothing more fun to me than a Saturday filled with tailgating and a Nevada win!

Your favorite time of day is ________, because…
Late morning/ afternoon; I’ve never been a morning person. I function best after 11am.

If you could fix one problem in our community, what would it be?
Poverty.

How would you fix it?
I think the long term solution to poverty is a multi pillar approach where we engage diverse stakeholders to collectively shape a healthier community. The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is actively working with the Truckee Meadows Healthy Communities initiative to begin this process. Its a lofty idea, but we have to begin somewhere!

If you weren’t at work right now, you’d be …
Either at Happy Hour with my girlfriends or hanging out with my Little at the Discovery!

If you could take anyone out for a cup of coffee, who would it be? Why?
Warren Buffett. I don’t want to have coffee with Warren Buffett the business magnate. I want to have coffee with Warren Buffett the philanthropist.

I am fascinated by the psychology behind what motivates someone to give to a specific cause or organization. Is it because he truly cares about a cause or because he has a good relationship with the CEO of that cause? How is he persuaded to give $2 billion rather than $2 million? Does he give any organizations $25 a year simply because they do not ask for more? So many questions!

To you, networking is about …
Connecting with like minded professionals and expanding social circles.

If you were a wild animal, which one would you be and why?
I may have a slight obsession with elephants, so probably an elephant.

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why? Frosted Flakes because everyone likes them!

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
My colleague Laura and I were out and about having some donor meeting in the Lakeside area. We were driving this giant Food Bank wrapped van (think uhaul size) when we made a wrong turn down an extremely narrow street. There was nowhere to turn around, so we had to slowly back out, about a quarter of a mile, all while 5 alpacas followed us staring intently at the two women who clearly couldn’t drive.

A penguin walks through the door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?
“Where’s the wine,” he is here for happy hour like the rest of us!

What was the last gift you gave someone?
My mom gave me my great grandmother’s pearls (necklace) for Christmas this year; they are gorgeous!

If there was a movie made about your life, who would play you and why?
Anna Kendrick– I’m pretty funny, she’s pretty funny– seems like a natural pick!

If you had a ‘walk out’ song, what would it be?
Powerful by Major Lazer featuring Ellie Goulding & Tarrus Riley because I am absolutely loving that song right now!
